Disneyland Paris with Kids: A Little Bit of Magic, Just Around the Corner ✨
There are places that make you feel like a child again.
Disneyland Paris is definitely one of them.
You walk through the gates, hear the music, spot Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end of Main Street and suddenly… well, adulthood can wait.
For a moment, it doesn’t matter whether you’re eight, thirteen or forty-something. You’re all just ridiculously excited to see what’s around the next corner.
And that’s exactly why Disneyland Paris with kids is such a fun family getaway.
It’s close enough for a long weekend, magical enough to feel like you’ve travelled much further, and there’s something for pretty much every age. From princesses and flying elephants to Marvel superheroes and roller coasters that make you question your parenting decisions for approximately three seconds.
Welcome to Disneyland Paris.

Disneyland Paris with kids: why we love it
One of the best things about Disneyland Paris is that you don’t need to plan a huge holiday around it.
No long-haul flight.
No jet lag.
No two weeks of packing.
Just hop on a plane, train or into the car and a few hours later you’re standing in front of a fairytale castle.
From the Netherlands, Disneyland Paris is wonderfully easy to reach, which makes it perfect for a family weekend away or a short school holiday.
And while little kids might be the first ones to fall under the Disney spell, don’t be fooled into thinking Disney is only for the under-tens.
Tweens love it.
Teenagers secretly love it.
And grown-ups?
Let’s just say we’re not exactly rushing to leave either.
Two parks, twice the fun
There are two parks at Disneyland Paris: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park.
And yes, you should definitely try to visit both.
Disneyland Park is the one you probably picture when you think of Disney. Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, princesses, pirates, cowboys and all those classic Disney characters you grew up with.
Walt Disney Studios Park is a little more grown-up, with Pixar, Marvel, Ratatouille and some seriously good rides.
The two parks are right next to each other, so you can easily move between them.
Although, fair warning: once you’ve seen the queue for a popular ride, you may suddenly develop a very strong opinion about which direction you should be walking.
Disneyland Park: hello, Disney magic!
Walking onto Main Street, U.S.A. for the first time is one of those little travel moments you remember.
There are colourful buildings, horse-drawn trams, music everywhere and, at the end of the street, that beautiful pink-and-blue castle.
It’s almost impossible not to smile.
Disneyland Park is divided into different themed lands, each with its own atmosphere.
Fantasyland
If you’re visiting Disneyland Paris with younger children, this is probably where you’ll spend a lot of your time.
Think princesses, fairytales and classic Disney.
You can fly through London with Peter Pan, sail around the world on “it’s a small world” and take a dizzying spin in the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups.
And of course, there’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Basically, everything here is designed to make you feel like you’ve accidentally wandered into a storybook.
Frontierland
Welcome to the Wild West.
Frontierland is home to Big Thunder Mountain, one of the most popular rides at Disneyland Paris – and one of our favourites.
It’s fast enough to be exciting but still feels like a family ride.
Unless you’re sitting next to the person who screams before the ride has even started.
We won’t name names.
Adventureland
Pirates, treasure, jungle adventures and Indiana Jones.
The star of the show is Pirates of the Caribbean, a classic Disney attraction that works brilliantly for the whole family.
And honestly, Adventureland is also one of those areas where it’s fun to simply wander around.
Not every Disney moment needs to involve standing in a queue.
Discoveryland
This is where things get a little more futuristic.
There’s Buzz Lightyear, Star Wars and Hyperspace Mountain – which is definitely one for the older kids and thrill-seekers.
If your family has a mix of ages, Discoveryland is a great place to keep everyone happy.
Walt Disney Studios Park: for Pixar, Marvel & adrenaline
If Disneyland Park feels like stepping into a fairytale, Walt Disney Studios Park feels more like stepping onto a movie set.
And if you’re travelling with tweens or teenagers, don’t skip this one.
Marvel fans can head straight to Avengers Campus, where superheroes, action and adrenaline take over.
Pixar fans can dive into the colourful world of their favourite movies.
And then there’s Ratatouille: The Adventure.
Because what could be more French than being shrunk down to the size of a rat and racing through a Parisian kitchen?
Exactly.
If you’re looking for the best Disneyland Paris rides for older kids, also put Tower of Terror and the more adventurous attractions high on your list.
The best rides at Disneyland Paris
Of course, we can’t talk about Disneyland Paris without talking about the rides.
Because while the castle is beautiful and the characters are magical, there’s only so long you can admire Main Street before someone announces:
“So… what are we going on?”
Our family favourites include:
🎢 Big Thunder Mountain – fun, fast and one of the best family roller coasters.
🏴☠️ Pirates of the Caribbean – a Disney classic that pretty much everyone can enjoy.
🚀 Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain – for those who like their Disney with a little more adrenaline.
🐀 Ratatouille: The Adventure – wonderfully immersive and very French.
🧚 Peter Pan’s Flight – pure Disney magic.
🌟 Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast – perfect for a little family competition. And yes, there will be accusations of cheating.
🏨 The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – only if you’re brave enough!
Our biggest Disneyland Paris tip? Decide beforehand which rides are absolute must-dos for your family.
Because you probably won’t do everything.
And that’s okay.
Disneyland isn’t a race.
Disneyland Paris with little kids
There’s something extra special about taking young children to Disneyland Paris.
They still believe in the magic completely.
A princess isn’t someone dressed up in a costume. She’s actually a princess.
Mickey Mouse is actually Mickey Mouse.
And the castle?
Well, obviously someone lives there.
Those are the moments you’ll remember.
If you’re visiting Disneyland Paris with toddlers or younger children, Fantasyland is a great place to start. But don’t feel like you have to spend the entire day there.
The parades, characters, music and atmosphere are just as much part of the experience as the rides.
One practical tip: bring a stroller, even if your child doesn’t normally use one anymore.
Because somehow a child who can walk for three hours around the house suddenly becomes completely incapable of walking from Pirates of the Caribbean to the castle.
Funny how that works.
Disneyland Paris with tweens and teenagers
Now for the parents wondering:
“Will my teenager actually enjoy Disneyland Paris?”
Yes.
Absolutely.
Even if they pretend otherwise.
Once they discover Big Thunder Mountain, Avengers Campus, Star Wars, Tower of Terror and the other thrill rides, they’ll probably forget to be embarrassed about being at Disney.
For older children, Disneyland Paris has a brilliant mix of adrenaline, Disney magic, Marvel, Pixar and classic attractions.
And there’s something lovely about visiting Disney as your children get older.
You still have the magic – it just looks a little different.
The princesses might be replaced by Marvel superheroes.
The gentle rides by roller coasters.
And the cuddly character souvenirs by something that costs three times as much and apparently “everyone has.”
Meeting Mickey, Minnie & the Disney characters
Then there are the characters.
Mickey.
Minnie.
Donald.
Goofy.
The Disney princesses.
Marvel superheroes.
And plenty of others.
You’ll find character meet-and-greets throughout the parks, and they’re often a highlight of a Disneyland Paris family trip.
Especially when you see your child’s face light up.
Because you can tell them that Mickey is just a person in a costume.
You can explain how it all works.
But when they’re standing in front of Mickey? They don’t care. And neither do we.
The Disneyland Paris parade
If there’s one thing you shouldn’t skip, it’s the parade.
Find a good spot.
Sit down.
Wait.
And watch the Disney magic roll past.
Yes, you’ll probably have to arrive early for a good view.
Yes, your children may ask approximately 47 times when it’s starting.
But when the music begins and the first float appears, you’ll know why you waited.
The costumes, music, characters and enormous colourful floats turn the whole park into one big celebration.
And suddenly, everyone is smiling.
Even the person who was complaining about their feet five minutes earlier.
Disneyland Paris at night ✨
And then there’s Disneyland Paris after dark.
Honestly, it’s worth staying until the end just for this.
Main Street glows with lights, the castle looks even more magical and the whole park feels different.
Then the nighttime spectacular begins.
Music.
Projections.
Fireworks.
The castle lighting up against the night sky.
This is one of those moments where you stop worrying about how tired everyone is, how many steps you’ve done or whether you’ll ever feel your feet again.
You just stand there.
Together.
And watch.
Definitely one for the memory bank.
How many days do you need at Disneyland Paris?
So, how long should you stay?
You can visit Disneyland Paris in one day.
But should you?
Hmm.
Probably not.
Unless you enjoy speed-walking through a theme park while trying to convince your children that yes, that was definitely enough time in the princess shop.
For a first visit, I’d recommend two full days at Disneyland Paris.
That gives you enough time to explore both parks, go on the big rides, meet characters, watch the parade and enjoy the nighttime show without constantly checking your watch.
And if you’re travelling with younger children, two days means you can slow down a little.
Because Disney is exciting.
It’s also a lot.
Lots of walking.
Lots of people.
Lots of noise.
Lots of snacks.
And approximately 8,000 things your children suddenly need.
A little breathing space is a very good thing.
Where to stay at Disneyland Paris
You can stay at one of the Disney hotels or choose a family-friendly hotel nearby.
And honestly, there isn’t one right answer.
Staying at a Disney hotel makes the whole experience feel even more magical. You wake up in the Disney bubble and can easily get to the parks.
But it can also be quite a bit more expensive.
If you’d rather spend your budget on rides, food and a completely unnecessary giant Mickey Mouse souvenir, there are plenty of hotels close to Disneyland Paris. We’ve put together a guide to Where to Stay Near Disneyland Paris: Best Family Hotels to help you find the right option for your family, from budget-friendly hotels to places with a shuttle or even within walking distance of the parks.
For families, this can be a great way to keep the trip a little more affordable.
Our rule?
If the hotel is part of the dream, stay Disney.
If you mainly want to experience the parks, stay nearby.
Either way, you’ll be waking up with Disney on your mind.
Our favourite Disneyland Paris tips
A little planning goes a long way.
⭐ Get there early
The first hours of the day can be your best friend. Head for your must-do attractions before the queues become enormous.
⭐ Use the Disneyland Paris app
It’s incredibly useful for checking wait times, maps, showtimes and character appearances.
⭐ Don’t plan every minute
This sounds contradictory after telling you to plan.
But hear us out.
Plan your must-dos.
Then leave some space for the unexpected.
Because sometimes the best moments are the ones you didn’t plan.
⭐ Take breaks
Sit down.
Have a coffee.
Eat something.
Let the kids play.
You’re on holiday, after all.
⭐ Wear comfortable shoes
We cannot stress this enough.
Cute shoes are lovely.
Comfortable shoes are better.
Your feet will thank you.
⭐ Bring layers
Paris weather likes to keep things interesting. A sunny morning can turn into a chilly evening, so layers are your friend.
⭐ Don’t forget the snacks
Disney snacks are part of the experience.
And yes, everything tastes better when it’s shaped like Mickey Mouse.
Obviously. 😂
From sweet treats to fun Disney-shaped snacks, there are plenty of things worth trying while you’re in the parks. If you want to know which ones made our list of favourites, check out The Best Snacks to Try at Disneyland Paris before your visit.
Is Disneyland Paris worth it?
Let’s be honest.
Disneyland Paris isn’t the cheapest family getaway.
It can be busy.
There can be queues.
You will walk a lot.
And at some point, somebody will probably have a minor meltdown over something that, five minutes later, nobody can remember.
But then…
You see your child’s face when they spot the castle.
You watch them meet their favourite character.
You all scream your way through Big Thunder Mountain.
You argue over who got the highest score on Buzz Lightyear.
You watch the parade together.
And then, standing in front of the castle at night, fireworks lighting up the sky, you realise:
This is why we came.
Disneyland Paris isn’t really about the rides.
It’s about the feeling.
It’s about giving your children a little bit of magic while they’re still young enough to believe in it.
And perhaps, secretly, giving yourself a little bit of that magic too.
Because sometimes the best family memories are the ones where everyone is tired, slightly overfed, carrying far too many souvenirs…
…and very, very happy.
So yes.
