Hong Kong Disneyland – A Magical Day in Asia’s Most Compact Disney Park

If you’re traveling to Hong Kong with kids, there’s one place that will almost certainly end up at the top of your itinerary: Hong Kong Disneyland.

And honestly? It’s not just for kids.

Tucked away on lush green Lantau Island, this Disney park feels like a little world of its own. Compared to the huge Disney parks in the US, Hong Kong Disneyland is smaller, calmer and surprisingly easy to explore in one day — which makes it perfect for families.

Expect fairytale castles, thrilling rides, Disney characters around every corner and some of the most impressive shows we’ve seen in any Disney park.

In this guide, we’ll share everything you need to know about visiting Hong Kong Disneyland — from how to get there and what rides not to miss to our Travelicious tips for visiting with kids.

Where Is Hong Kong Disneyland?

Hong Kong Disneyland is located on the northeast side of Lantau Island, about 30 minutes from central Hong Kong.

Getting there is incredibly easy thanks to the city’s fantastic public transport system.

The quickest way is via the MTR. Simply take the train to Sunny Bay Station and transfer to the adorable Disney-themed train that takes you straight to the park.

Travelicious tip:
The Disney train itself is already part of the experience — think Mickey-shaped windows and golden statues inside the carriages.

Is Hong Kong Disneyland Worth Visiting?

Absolutely — especially if you’re traveling with kids.

Unlike some of the larger Disney parks, this one feels relaxed and manageable. You can easily see most attractions in a single day without rushing.

The park is beautifully designed, incredibly clean and surrounded by mountains and the sea, which gives it a very unique atmosphere compared to other Disney parks.

Another bonus: queues are often much shorter than in places like Disneyland Park or Magic Kingdom.

The Castle: Castle of Magical Dreams

The centerpiece of the park is the stunning Castle of Magical Dreams.

The castle was completely redesigned in 2020 and is now inspired by multiple Disney princesses, making it unique among all Disney parks.

It’s easily one of the most beautiful castles we’ve seen — especially at night when it lights up during the evening show.

Best Rides at Hong Kong Disneyland

Even though the park is compact, it still has some fantastic rides.

Frozen Ever After (World of Frozen)

One of the newest highlights in the park is the magical Frozen area: World of Frozen. Here you’ll find the ride Frozen Ever After, where you sail through the kingdom of Arendelle alongside Elsa and Anna.

For many kids (and secretly a lot of parents too), this ride is an absolute favourite. The entire Frozen-themed land is beautifully designed and truly feels like stepping into the movie Frozen.

Mystic Manor

Without exaggeration, this might be one of the best Disney rides in the world.

Instead of a haunted house, this attraction tells the story of an explorer and his mischievous monkey. It’s beautifully designed and full of magical special effects.

Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars

This ride is Hong Kong Disneyland’s answer to Big Thunder Mountain — but with a fun twist. The train suddenly changes direction mid-ride, which the kids absolutely loved.

Iron Man Experience

Marvel fans will love the Iron Man themed simulator ride, where you fly through Hong Kong battling robots above the city skyline.

Skip the Lines: Early Access & Fast Pass Options

Even though Hong Kong Disneyland is smaller than other Disney parks, popular rides can still have queues — especially the Frozen attractions.

Buy Early Park Entry (Highly Recommended)

One of the best tips we discovered is buying an Early Park Entry pass. For about €15 per person, you can enter the park before the regular opening time.

And trust us — it’s totally worth it.

Early entry gives you access to certain areas of the park, including World of Frozen, which means you can ride Frozen Ever After with almost no waiting time.

Since this is one of the most popular rides in the park, this simple trick can easily save you an hour in line.

Travelicious tip:
Head straight to the Frozen rides as soon as you enter — you’ll thank yourself later.

Disney Premier Access (Fast Pass)

The park also offers paid fast passes called Disney Premier Access. These allow you to skip the regular queue for selected rides.

You can purchase them via the Hong Kong Disneyland app or inside the park.

If you’re visiting during holidays or busy periods, this can save you a lot of waiting time.

The Shows Are Incredible

One thing Hong Kong Disneyland does exceptionally well is live entertainment.

The highlight of our day was the nighttime show Momentous, which takes place in front of the castle.

Fireworks, projections, music and lasers combine into a spectacular finale that’s honestly worth staying for.

Travelicious tip:
Grab a spot about 30–40 minutes before the show starts for the best view.

Stay at a Disney Hotel

Want to make the experience even more magical? Consider staying at one of the Disney hotels next to the park, such as the elegant Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

This beautiful Victorian-style hotel feels like a classic Disney resort and offers spacious family rooms, character dining experiences and direct access to the park.

The biggest perk? Guests sometimes get early park access, which means you can enter the park before regular visitors and enjoy some rides with minimal queues.

For families visiting Disneyland, this can make the experience even smoother and more relaxed.

Visiting Hong Kong Disneyland With Kids

We always love destinations that are easy to explore with children — and this park definitely fits that category.

Everything is well organized, stroller-friendly and there are plenty of places to take breaks.

There are also lots of smaller rides and interactive attractions for younger kids, especially in Fantasyland.

And of course, meeting Disney characters is always a highlight.

Best Time to Visit

Hong Kong Disneyland is open year-round, but some periods are definitely more pleasant.

We visited in February during Chinese New Year, and it turned out to be a fantastic time to go.

The weather was brilliant — sunny, comfortable and perfect for walking around the park all day. The park was beautifully decorated for the Lunar New Year celebrations, which added a special festive atmosphere.

Travelicious tip:
Try to visit on a weekday if possible. Weekends and holidays can be busier.

Final Thoughts

If you’re visiting Hong Kong with kids, spending a day at Hong Kong Disneyland is an easy yes.

It’s magical, beautifully designed and just the right size for a relaxed family day. Add the stunning setting on Lantau Island and you’ve got one of the most unique Disney parks in the world.

For us, it ended up being one of the most fun and memorable days of our Hong Kong trip.

And honestly… a little Disney magic never hurts. ✨
