SEO title Puerto Rico with Kids: San Juan, Fajardo, El Yunque & Rincón Travel Guide

If you’re looking for a destination that combines Caribbean beaches, colourful cities, rainforest adventures and laid-back surf towns, Puerto Rico might just be one of the most complete family destinations in the world.

What makes it even better? It’s easy to travel around, English is widely spoken, and you can experience completely different landscapes within just a few hours of driving.

We explored Puerto Rico as a family and loved the variety: from historic streets in San Juan to a private island resort in Fajardo, jungle waterfalls in El Yunque, and sunset surf vibes in Rincón.

San Juan – colourful streets and Caribbean history

San Juan is the perfect place to start your journey. The capital blends culture, colour and beach life in a very walkable and relaxed way.

Why we loved San Juan

Beautiful pastel-coloured streets in Old San Juan

Impressive historic forts overlooking the ocean

Vibrant plazas with music and local life

Beaches just a short drive from the city

The contrast between history and modern Caribbean energy makes San Juan an easy and fun first stop with kids.

👉 Travelicious tip: Explore Old San Juan early in the day, then head to the beach in the afternoon to escape the heat.

Fajardo – turquoise waters & resort relaxation

Fajardo was our next stop after San Juan and a perfect transition into coastal relaxation.

This area is known for crystal-clear water, marinas, and island excursions — but for us, it also included one of the highlights of the trip.

Where we stayed – El Conquistador Resort

We stayed at El Conquistador Resort and absolutely loved it.

It felt like a full Caribbean holiday experience: beautiful views, relaxed atmosphere, and a real resort feel from the moment we arrived.

The highlight – Palomino Island

The resort’s private island was unforgettable.

We spent the day swimming in clear blue water, relaxing on soft sand, and enjoying the ultimate slow island vibe. For families, it’s incredibly easy and stress-free — exactly what a holiday should feel like.

👉 Travelicious tip: Take the first boat over to the island for quieter beaches and calmer water.

El Yunque – rainforest adventure in the Caribbean

Just a short drive from the coast lies something completely different: the tropical rainforest of El Yunque National Forest.

Why El Yunque is so special

Dense green jungle with waterfalls and rivers

Easy family-friendly hiking trails

Natural swimming spots in the forest

The magical sound of coquí frogs at night

It’s one of the most accessible rainforests in the world and a must-visit for families.

Where we stayed – Casa Cubuy Rainforest Eco Lodge

One of our most memorable stays was at Casa Cubuy Rainforest Eco Lodge.

Surrounded by nature, it felt completely peaceful and removed from everything. Waking up to rainforest sounds and falling asleep to frogs and river noise was an experience in itself.

👉 Travelicious tip: Stay overnight if you can — early mornings in the rainforest are magical.

Rincón – surf, sunsets & slow island life

Rincón on the west coast is where the pace slows down completely.

Why Rincón is worth visiting

Relaxed surf town atmosphere

Beautiful beaches and dramatic sunsets

Local cafés and food trucks

Whale watching in winter season

This is the perfect place to end your Puerto Rico trip — no rush, no plans, just beach time and sunset views.
